Questions Discussed

  1. Can you share the story behind how The Momma Tribe was created and what your mission is?

The business idea came to her when she had her third child, Porter. Going from two to three kids was really challenging and she felt really isolated and alone. She was at an ECFE class and realized she was looking for something that helped with parenting, marriage, plus mind, body, and soul care all in one place. Since such a service did not exist, and realizing there was a huge need for it, Meggie decided to create the business herself. Everybody was struggling with parenting skills and wanted tools to maintain a healthy marriage. It seemed to be that most moms were putting self care on the bottom of their list.

The goal of The Momma Tribe is to connect, support and empower moms. Meggie wanted to create an online community where moms were able to find the support and tribe they need. She has found that even without meeting face to face the other moms she has connected to through the tribes and social media have been very supportive when she has had a tough day. The mission and vision is for every mom to feel apart of a community.  A lot of local moms are part of the tribes, but also women from five different states. Her goal is to eventually get to all 50 states and expand globally.

    2. Why did you pick connect, support and empower as your three main foundations and how do you use them in The Momma Tribe?

Each mom has another mom to connect with each week, and has to connect with them 1×1 outside of the group. For support they do check-ins each week and discuss their challenges and successes. For empowerment, the members have a topic around the three pillars, motherhood/parenting, marriage/relationships or mind body soul care.  One of her recent discussions was about the Love Languages and how spouses can help each other communicate better. She hopes that the tribe members will bring the tips they’ve learned into their own personal lives.

3. Do you have guest speakers visit on The Momma Tribe and what types?

Meggie had three weeks with a licensed parent educator in the summer and will continue working with her into the fall. She has also had a licensed family and marriage therapist come on in the spring to do a Q and A, plus a women’s empowerment speaker, and a chiropractor who specializes in moms.

4. Having an online community of moms would be really beneficial, especially for those who struggle with social anxiety or have a hard time getting out of the house to attend physical events, especially when you have multiple children.

Many of us want convenience! Between the travel time and having to find childcare its hard to make time for ourselves. Plus, if you have to nurse your baby, or put your kids to bed, it can be hard to get out. The Momma Tribe is a versatile and easy way to still be a part of a community.

5. What are the steps that you think women can take to find community and thrive in motherhood.

– For community, you need to be willing to be vulnerable and honest about where you are at and how you are feeling. Meggie is always honest when she has a bad day on social media. It’s easier to make close friends if you’re willing to lay out the tough stuff with other people.

Also, find things that interest you, which can be hard because you can sometimes forget what you liked to do before you were a Mom.

-For thrive you have to put yourself first. Meggie meditatates, journals, and finds the things that fill herself up first so she can then serve her kids. Also, your mindset needs to be filled up with positive books, positive things, and affirmations etc. so you can get more positivity in your life.

6. In what ways has The Momma Tribe improved your own life or the lives of your members?

-The steps provided from the license parent educator were very helpful, especially in the example of how kids flip their lid. Also, when they discussed love languages there was a mom with a 3 month old who felt like she was just in survival mode. It was impressive that she recognized it already and was taking the time to receive tips on how to make her marriage stronger with a new baby.

The Momma Tribe is helping women be more intentional with their parenting and relationships.
