Dr. Jesse Lillejord: Chiro For Moms

  • Can you please tell listeners a little about yourself?

Jesse is a momma and wife with a background in sports medicine and chemistry. Her and her husband recently purchased a farm and run the business Chiro for Moms along with a team of amazing ladies.

  • Take us back to the beginning, why did you feel there was a need for Chiro for Moms and how was the idea born? What makes this practice so special?

Jesse was working for another chiropractic company and was not happy with various administrative things and her work life balance. She had young children and decided to say home with them for 2 years without the intention of going back. After a while, and entertaining some different work options, she decided that eventually she would need to work again and wanted to open her own clinic and run it the way she saw fit. She wanted a place for women and moms that focused on them, their bodies, and their unique needs. She wanted a cash only practice, that was kid proof, kid friendly, and had easy scheduling.

  • How can chiropractic care benefit pregnant women and what should they know?

Mobility is huge! Your pelvis gets hyper mobile and wobbly during pregnancy with all the relaxin. Chiropractic care can help with many things such as pinching of the Sciatic nerve, hip flexor pain, round ligaments, neutralize the pelvis for delivery helping the woman prepare for delivery which will also aid in recovery later.

  • How does chiropractic care benefit children and what should parents with children of all ages know and consider?

Infants are mainly treated for Torticollis or noticeable misalignment of the neck that is visible to parents after leaving the womb. If the baby’s neck wants to favor one side or the other. The clinic can work on mobilizing the neck. Infants are also seen for gas and reflux issues. Children are also seen for ear infections to help drain the fluid. Children can benefit from adjusting, mobilizing, and teaching parents to do things at home to help their kids.  Chiropractic care can also help with breastfeeding. Adjustments can help with the latch and how the jaw opens and closes. We go inside their mouths and working on relaxing the tissue so the latching becomes easier for the babies.

  • What health concerns do chiropractors treat that people might not know about?

People should look at the activities of daily living and determine what ways they feel limited. Look at where you are feeling pain, discomfort, or low mobility. Chiropractic care may be able to help relieve that pain.

  • How do you think communication/social media has changed the way you treat patients?

Images on social media now prompt people to ask questions right away and get answers so quickly. Also, transferring records and information between doctors is so fast and it creates such a dialogue between patient and caregiver and makes it so all the doctors are on the same page.

  • Are there things to do at home to help our bodies and alignment at home? or things we shouldn’t be doing that cause problems?

Yes, there are many things you can incorporate into your daily routine, even sitting at your desk. We are updating our website each day and making videos each week. Visit our website to watch videos about what can be done between visits.

  • What are your goals for Chiro for Moms or how do you anticipate it growing in the future?

We have a new PR person starting soon which is exciting for the business. Jesse also wants the entire team to take the Enneagram.  I would like us all to understand each other’s weaknesses and strengths and to build a really strong team.

  • What are your hours?

We treat six days a week, Monday-Saturday. Please check the website for specific information. Monday and Wednesday Jesse is there until 7pm to treat patients.

  • What can you tell someone who has never been to a chiropractor before to put their mind at ease?

Our bodies are meant to move. You move your body more driving and turning your head than the chiropractor does. It does not take a lot of movement to move your joints. We are not doing anything your body does not want done.  The cracking and popping is air moving out of your joints. If you are nervous, talk through it with your provider. It is not irrational to be scared. Embrace that it is a little scary and move through it slowly. The movements don’t have to be done quickly.

  • What is one thing that has surprised you about being an entrepreneur?

I was surprised by how lonely it is to start a business. It is harder than I thought.  The path is lonely because there isn’t really anyone to talk to about the specifics. No one has walked to exact path you are on.  That’s why I love having team members now!
