Questions Discussed

  1. What services does Fashion Fix offer and what would you say your mission is?

Fashion Fix offers personal shopping, styling, and speaking both locally and virtually. You can meet with Lindsey at the Mall of America, Goodwill, or in your home.

The Mission of Fashion Fix is to “Empower women and build confidence through a styled and productive wardrobe.”

Lindsey is able to teach her clients how to add productivity to their wardrobes, help them understand how to navigate stores, and edit out what they don’t need or want from their current wardrobes.

She makes sure her clients understand the science of style. This is where they learn about the fabric, cut, color, and versatility of items they already own or might buy in the store.

One rule she gives- you should be able to wear 90% of your wardrobe 100% of the time. Your clothes should be able to transcend seasons, excluding heavy wool pieces or very seasonal prints. She will show you how to style your wardrobe across seasons.

2. What do you find women typically have the most trouble with when it comes to styling and shopping and why do you think that is? Is there a category of clothing that many women seem to struggle with buying for themselves? i.e. business casual, formal, date night etc?

Women seem to have the most trouble knowing what body type they are because many times it has changed due to growing their families. Buying pants seems to also be difficult for women.

3. Sometimes it can feel like we have to give up comfort for style. How do you find a good balance for both?

You can be stylish and comfortable. Don’t buy an article of clothing if you tell yourself that you “can make it work.” You shouldn’t need to wear restrictive undergarments or a certain pair of pants to make a piece in your wardrobe work.

4. Being a plus size woman can make you feel restricted in the types of clothing that you should wear. For example, avoid bold patterns, stripes, bright colors, cover up “problem areas” etc.

How do you think we can change that mentality and help all body types feel comfortable in a variety of clothes?

The bold voices who wear plus sizes and speak confidently of themselves give other women courage and power to do the same. A shift is happening with more people being body positive, but a lot of work still needs to be done.

5. What are some pieces of advice or tools you would give women to help them with styling and shopping?

  • Know your size and fit
  • Know what you need and know what you already have
    • Wardrobe Essentials Checklist
    • Editing Guide
  • Know your personal style-don’t get caught up in what others are wearing
  • Know where to shop to find items that fit your personal style

6. Helping women feel more confident in their clothes must feel really rewarding! What kind of comments do you usually hear from clients during your sessions?
Clients tend to try on items and love them when they normally wouldn’t gravitate towards a particular item. Clients are glowing and so happy after they find pieces that make them feel confident and empowered.

7. What is something you did not expect or is difficult about personal styling/shopping?
Lindsey is still nervous before appointments. She is always praying she will be able to find everything her client needs during the appointment to help them have a styled and productive wardrobe.

8. What advice would you give to people looking to start a business or people who want to break into this industry, specifically women and moms? It helps to be vulnerable and share your own story. Women want to work with other women who they can relate to and feel safe with.
